Getting a maid

We visited Bukit Timah Shopping Centre - oh mine, what an impressive place it is. It's like the Sim Lim Square for maid agencies. You'll find an agency at every nook and cranny of the building.

TS's colleague recommended CRISLO maid agency. She mentioned that the maids are well-trained (sounds like I'm getting some toilet-trained puppy) and provides some good quality transfer maids who have working experience in other countries.

We wasted no time and quickly proceeded to CRISLO on the second floor, next to the escalator. One thing really doubtful about the agency is that it is so conveniently located. 'Cos instinctively, shops that are near convenient locations tend to sell more expensively or are more dubious. Well, I'm keeping my fingers crossed and hoping for the best.

We were only presented with less than 6 biodatas but we've spent the whole afternoon deliberating over who to be select. That's cos we didn't prioritise the factors for getting a maid in the first place. After 3 hours, we came up with the main criteria:
  • experience with taking care of babies and toddlers
  • worked as a maid before
  • never worked in Singapore
  • speaks English
  • pleasant looking
  • not too expensive
We chose Ms. Yusni from Cilacap, Indonesia. She is married with one child and has worked in Malaysia for 2 years. Hopefully she can tahan my ah boy and stay with us as long as possible and hopefully I can tahan her and let her stay with us as long as possible.

Note:
According to the agency, Indonesian maids command higher pay now - $350 for a fresh one, add $20 for an experienced one. For Filipinos maids, its $420 for an experienced one, plus a $2K to be paid to the Philippines Embassy. They must have their HP and a day off every month. I was hoping for $280 for an Indonesian maid - guess the salary info on the SG Motherhood forum is really outdated.
